Check out our last-minute school holiday destination suggestions and make this summer holiday an unforgettable one.
Cala D’or, Majorca
Off the east coast of Spain, the Balearic Islands are packed with beautiful resorts surrounded by the azure waters of the Mediterranean.
Majorca (or Mallorca – that’s a debate for another day!) is overflowing with enticing destinations, lined with majestic beaches and coves – and Cala d’Or has to be our favourite.
Cala d’Or is home to small sandy beaches, leading to crystal waters bounded by lush green trees and plants. You’ll love the seafront as much as your kids will, while the welcoming shops, bars and restaurants provide ample distractions for all ages.
Walt Disney World, Orlando, Florida
The Walt Disney World Resort in Florida needs no introduction, but we’ll give it a brief one anyway.
It’s not just a theme park. It’s a huge collection of magical lands to explore packed with rides, shops and once-in-a-lifetime experiences for all ages.
Every child should experience Disney World at least once – and, if you’re smart about it, it can be surprisingly affordable, even last-minute. You don’t have to stay at the park itself, meaning that you can pick up some last-minute bargain flights and nearby accommodation, then buy tickets for the park when you’re there.
A trip to Disney World will certainly give your children something to tell their friends about when they start the new school year in September!
Weymouth in Dorset, is a fantastic resort that’s much closer to home – ideal if you don’t fancy large-scale planning and packing.
An elegant Georgian town, Weymouth is crowned by its award-winning sandy beach, forming part of the famous Jurassic Coastline. But it’s not just sand that makes it so spectacular. As a tourism hot-spot, the beach is loaded with activities to keep the kids entertained while you enjoy the weather.
Younger children can watch Punch and Judy or saddle up for a donkey ride, while older kids can try out a range of water sports. You’ll also find the Sea Life Centre, Monkey World and other must-see attractions close by.
Northern France is another quick to plan, easy to book option. A short trip across the channel puts you in picturesque French towns, cities and villages – a quick continental escape that’s just a few hours away.
One of our favourites is Normandy and its historic capital city, Rouen, where you can take a trip back in time through the old districts, enjoy classic French cuisine, and even slip in some summer learning at the city’s fine art galleries and exhibitions.
And, if anyone gets restless, Rouen’s also an excellent base for trips to other local destinations, with every kind of activity and entertainment imaginable in easy reach.
